Hawaii 5-0!

Well, here is the gist of what has happened since our last update...

The science fair was AWESOME...Ella reported her results on a popcorn experiment, Natalie had 2 successful volcano demos, Grace did a pict-o-presentation on her fav subject (archeology), and David told of the little known facts regarding roly-poly bugs, whilst Claire Bear bravely held the bug jar. Everyone performed in admirable fashion, and Mom and Dad were P-R-O-U-D :-).

The only 'unfortunate' development was that mom had mixed the start time for the fair by a half hour and in her frenzy to load the Suburban with fair projects, stubbed her pinkie toe on a rock on the same foot whose ankle she had twisted just weeks before. After seeing literal stars and blacking out before 'coming to', she continued on with the loading of the vehicle, etc. , so that the fam only arrived 10 minutes past the scheduled start time, and still before the other participants. (Note to self: Texas time is ALWAYS a half hour PAST stated start time...although it is very likely I already made this calculation, and then forgot, and then scrambled and got injured..who knows?)

At about 2am the following morning, she woke up crying about the pain in her foot and decided she'd hijack dad's podiatrist appt (but HE gets the credit as he thought of it first...good man!) the following Monday to see what the ache was all about. Well, since the sprain and consequent fall down the stairs 3 weeks earlier, the sprain in her ankle had gone from an estimated 'stage 3' to a probable 'stage 1' sprain at the time of the toe injury. The doctor deduced that since the ankle couldn't absorb the shock of the stubbing of the toe, the shock was then transferred into the foot, where 2 bones were fractured and some major soft tissue damage was inflicted. Needless to say, she has spent the past 3 weeks in a boot-cast and will spend 3-4 more weeks in said cast until the doctor says it is healed enough to go without. Oy! She is feeling decidedly middle-aged.

In the weeks following the Science Fair, Craig turned 50, (that's fifty, the BIG 5-0, as in Hawaii), and our power happened to have gone out for the day before and of the big day. (side note: to be a meteorologist...paid to be consistently WRONG about weather patterns...the same storm that rendered us w/o power wasn't even FORECAST for our area!) So, in light of the fact that the entire contents of his freezers had defrosted, and so as not to inflict food poisoning on his numerous guests, his big bday bash has been postponed indefinitely...but the fact remains that he is STILL fifty; that's 5-0. 50!

Natalie ROCKED on her first violin performance of the complete works of Suzuki Book One (all from memory) and will now enjoy learning the flute as a 'lite' summer instrument...her reward for said performance.

Okay, and so, that is the Meissler 7 update. The kids and Craig are very tan, Nia is pale and super-toned on the right side of her body from the leg cast. We'll keep you updated as the month progresses but so far...what a start to summer!

Love Much,

The Meissler 7
