Update - P.S.

Well, Dad will continue as the 'Lone Driver' of our household for another week or two, at least. I have a compression fracture of the heel with a pulled plantar fascia, and a weird cyst to lend constant pressure to the tendon due to the heel break. I'm looking at another 6 weeks in the boot, with lots of rest, Tylenol and ice packs! The good news is that according to webmd.com, the average person can expect to break 2 bones in a lifetime, so as I see it, I'm serving all my time at once! (work with me here...)

A member of our church staff has lent me/us 'Dixie', a (labeled) walker, which I enjoy using on the concrete portions of our floor. Yes, I did say 'enjoy'... it can be fun when I use enough umph that I almost cruise a little bit! Yet alas, the responsible part of me warns too much cruising can quickly lead to bruising up the good heel so I try to cruise only at those moments that entertain me, like when the cats are waiting by the door. I also have a pair of crutches I bought for $5 on the HEB clearance rack last year, (just in case!), and 2 older children I've bribed with money to take on a majority of the household chores without complaint. Those last 2 words are key!

Tomorrow Craig is taking Ella and Natalie to a Rick Riordan signing for his Lost Hero book, (you may recall they had The Red Pyramid autographed last spring), but other than that we have a quiet weekend ahead. I forgot to explain last week that the Giggle, Giggle, Quack picture was from when the kids met the cast from a community play Craig and the kids (minus Claire) got to enjoy with some friends from church. They really had a fabulous time, and have been putting on their own plays (complete with violin soundtrack) all week long :-).

We are finally able to enjoy our front porch and back patio again, with cooler weather and fewer mosquitoes....and we are reminded again of why we love Texas!

Happy Fall!

P.S.

Claire has an appt in 2 weeks with a gastroneurologist to figure out what's going on with her body. In the meantime, my friend Rachel found THE BEST COOKBOOK OF ALL TIME! It truly is...I've made 3 recipes that have been wildly successful (received well by the entire fam) and have used substitutions in some of our fav recipes to make them gluten & dairy free, and NO ONE COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE! I really can't say enough about it...I am so grateful for this gift, and plan to share it with anyone else going through weird dietary issues. For once I feel positive about the prospect of a dairy and gluten free future; a burden has definitely been lifted!

The girls had a FAB time at the book signing, and even Dad enjoyed himself. I'm glad they all had that opportunity, and even though I got to attend the last one, I'm still slightly jealous!
