Well, life has been busy, and the days all seem to run into each other, and then BAM! The day of the 'dreaded' appointment is upon us.
Claire is going to be admitted for outpatient surgery on Monday. She needs to be at the hospital by 6:30am for 8am surgery, and is expected to be done and headed back for home by noon. She can't have any food after midnight (not really a problem) and only clear liquid until 4am....THAT is going to be a bit more challenging. Claire is a BEAR until she fully wakes, with a LOT of snuggle time and coconut milk!
Everyone has been trying to console mom, who was more than a little disappointed that the doctor didn't accept her 'home-study' of gluten and Claire as strong enough evidence to deem surgery unnecessary. (The grown up in me understands this, but after subjecting Claire to heart-breaking stomach pain and raw bottom from copious amounts of gluten to ensure a clear test result, the mama bear in me really wants to scream and rebel!) Also, Claire has consistently proven that she is not the 'typical' child in how she reacts to ANYTHING, so mom is really anxious about how she reacts to the anesthesia.
Please, please, please pray that her surgery and recovery are as swift and as painless as possible, and that she doesn't really remember much about it...lately she has been recalling things that have happened to her from WAY before children are 'supposed' to remember. We would really love a good bout of amnesia for her (AND mom!).
On a completely unrelated, life-goes-on type of note, every single piece of art presented on our blog was made courtesy of Grace during her hour long art session that meets once a week. She has learned a TON about different art mediums, and is very patient in explaining how each look is achieved. She also has a very gifted and passionate teacher who has a way of personalizing the 'feature Artist' the students are learning about so that Grace, too, personalizes her work, instead of mimicking the 'feature Artist' style. We really, really hope her instructor continues her course in the spring at our current location and at the current cost. Our Gracie has a real knack for art (and only in art class or while doing art at home is she ever still!) and we are eager to see where her passion leads her as she continues to mature.
Mom Update: My heel is slowly but surely beginning to heal. I still need crutches and 'beep-beep-carts' (the kids literally trip over each other and brave mortal peril to push the obnoxious horn on those machines!) when out and about, and I am still unable to drive or walk around boot-less. That being said, the deep throbbing of my center heel is only present when I've overdone it, or haven't taken the time-out to elevate my foot and ice it down. Whenever I feel like I can't take the time, I try to remember how hard it is to fully depend on another person to drive me around when I need to go anywhere, and viola! I'm motivated to rest so as to gain back my driving abilities! Also, it'll be nice to get the kids back on some sort of schedule. The way it's been since my injury, we school around the extra-curriculars and 'on the road' time, based on how it all fits in with Craig's 2 jobs, piano lessons and school. Add errands and we're lucky to leave the house by 7pm to run those, and the kids aren't in bed until 10pm!
We'll update the blog on Tuesday or Wednesday with the results of Claire's surgery (if we know then), and at least let you know how she fared. Until then.........
Take Care & Love Much!
