Life Lesson

Here are some 'life lessons' we've learned this week:

  • It is best to change open-wound bandages whilst active children SLEEP! We've done both awake & asleep, and asleep wins, hands down! (even David is a proponent of this practice.)

  • The human body is truly remarkable. David's wound from 5 days ago to today has made remarkable progress. As of yesterday, he is tentatively heel-hobbling around for basic needs,(Bathroom, Remote, Kitchen...wait, that sounds like...never mind!), though his wound still bleeds...a LOT!

  • Active boys go stir-crazy quickly when couch-bound!

  • Despite all your preparations, life is really about handling the curve-balls. Natalie auditioned for the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio, and despite what we were told to expect, both from YOSA & her instructor, over half of what was 'expected' didn't happen! We find out June 10th if she made the Orchestra; if she did, it was because of her impeccable performance & attention to detail. She knew all of her audition pieces by heart, and therefore was able to play them with more emotion than if the pieces were perfunctory. She practiced her sight reading ad nausea, according to what was 'known', and then was given a piece to read a good 2 levels above where she is 'at' right now. If she does not make Orchestra, I KNOW it is because of a judge's personal issues...and it will be a great loss to YOSA!

  • Mama-Bears are doubly fierce whence their child is the subject of an adults frustration at extraneous circumstance (read: audition was running 20 min. behind when we arrived 45 min. early, only to have the time delay snowball to 40 min. behind by the time Natalie was heard!)

  • Smart people AVOID Mama-Bears at all cost. Enough said.

  • Our family is a FABULOUS support system. The empathy for David with his injury and Natalie with her uncertain audition made Momma's eyes well up:-) Great Kids!

  • Some points can only be made using LOTS of exclaimation points!!!!!

  • My Husband, and the kiddos Daddy, ROCKS! His children keep him young, and it is easy to see how the adage '50 is the new 30' applies to him, even with +1 year! (we'll just ignore the grey....or shave it all off again in the name of a 'summer haircut'. Happy Birthday, Birthday Boy!!! WE LOVE YOU!

Love Much,
The Meissler 7
