Our one and only 'baby' boy turned 7 this past January 15....Momma is in shock (she can still remember birthing the little bundle) but the fam as a whole is glad for the fun adventures he's brought into our lives.
For his 'big' day, we celebrated with our church family in worship and study, where he was privileged to hold the offering basket for opening :). Once home, we ventured out for Laser Tag, something David has wanted to do for pretty much forever! The best part of Laser Tag for David was (surprise) the gun and shooting. For Mom & Dad, it was seeing who among us are successful via genes or competitive streak...we appear to be split 50-50...Claire will be the tie-breaker, when she is finally big enough to compete! (She drives a mean car game, though....)
After a FULL day in celebration of the lone male Meissler....Daddy-O had a fall on his run, requiring 5 stitches in his eyebrow, and a fix of his new glasses. A week later, the stitches were removed, and the surgeon did a FABULOUS job...This would be in the Meissler family 'tradition' of requiring an ER visit per odd Monday holiday...
The other 'ugh' moment was Claire inadvertently being served a dish with an orange sauce whose second ingredient was WHEAT...despite Mom's best effort to communicate to the chef her daughters severity of gluten allergy. It appears her allergy is only progressing in severity, and this last exposure resulted in a high fever lasting 2 days (when her body had finally purged itself of all gluten the fever broke), and a good 4 days after before she felt 'normal' enough to eat again.
In the meantime, I/We have been running like crazy completing the tasks that mark our day-to-day existence...leaving just enough time in the evening for a deep breath, a light rest, and a rejuvenation sufficient for the next days tasks...thus far including unexpected car and home repairs, health hiccups and other miscellaneous 'garbage'.
Ella has begun her testing and registration for Lutheran High next year, and the family has collectively been rejoicing/mourning her transition...she aspires to become a pilot, and would ultimately like to attend Baylor University just 'up the road' a bit here in Hill Country. We want her to have as many scholarship opportunities available to her as possible so that she might achieve her goal, and it just seems that Lutheran High is the best route for her to take.
So...that is our life in a nutshell. Prayers are needed for 1) guidance with Claire and her dairy and gluten allergies; this is affecting her LIFE, and we need to find a doctor that can help us to help her better cope in her day-to-day living with her allergies, and 2) ease of transition for the family and Ella as she moves into a new chapter of her life. Finally, we have an extremely busy year ahead with Craig's ordination into the ministry of the LCMS, and medical procedures for Nia to ease some long-term health issues. (Plus, whatever God sees fit to bestow upon us that we have yet to know about!)
Here's to a busy start to the new year...
Love Much,
The Meissler 7
