Two weeks ago, Ella was climbing trees with friends before the Science Fair. She jumped from a branch a little higher than she normally would, and landed on the tree root below instead of the grass. "I think I hurt my foot" was all she said to me before I promptly prescribed 2 tylenol and a foot soak after the science presentation. "Okay", and she was fine and off to climbing again, presenting at the fair, even running afterwards. Fast forward 2 weeks.
Ella had an appointment yesterday for orthotic inserts for her shoes, to help her foot to form an arch (as she has none) and help with her in-toe. Please keep in mind this appointment was immediately after our last "park day" (until September) with our homeschool group. Ella came home from her appointment with an air cast on, and she needs to keep the cast on until mid to late June. Apparently she sprained the tendon that runs from the heel to the big toe, and may have fractured something in the foot to boot (pun intended). Ella was just playing 'red rover' barefoot!*!*! What is a mom to do?
Major, major guilt. How could I have known? Now she has the 'remember when mom...' story for her trauma arsenal as an adult. Great!
Grace finally lost her nail on her big toe. The Nail Fairy visited and brought her $5 and a LPS pink monkey journal for being the bravest 5 year old she's ever seen. The coolest part about the nail was that she could see where "mom put the fire in my toe". It just keeps getting better...

Praying for quick healing, Ella. By the way, we love your new dog!
Oh my goodness! No mommy guilt, no! They think they've hurt themselves, or nearly do hurt themselves, 100+ times a week- there's no way a mommy can know which ones are for real.
To make it worse, Miles has decided that saying "Ouch!" is a great way to get attention or get his way, and is too young to understand why we shouldn't "cry wolf." (If I try to tell him the story, he just starts howling at me.) Now it's even harder to determine which hurts are real and which are for effect. Ah, two-year-olds... :)
I hope both of your beautiful girls heal quickly and that you have a wonderful week, my dear cousin. I am really enjoying reading all of your blog entries, too, by the way. Thank you for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to do this for us. :) xoxoxoxo.
