Now is one of those times I wish I had a video cam that could connect into my brain and play for you ALL of the activities of the past week!
The week began with the discovery of a baby Blue Jay who was unsuccessful in his attempt to fly from his nest. He landed right in front of one of our cats, who (of course) was nearby Ella and traumatized her by catching the dear, sweet being in front of her. Shortly thereafter, the wee bird was rescued from our cats jaws, and though he appeared to be okay (aside from not being able to fly), he died the next day.
On that very same day, a new baby Blue Jay attempted to fly from the same nest and bonked right into the roof area above our porch. Ella recognized the squawking in time and the bird was spared a trip around the yard in our cats mouth. This bird ate heartily and chirped loudly while continuing his attempts at flight in our newly acquired bird cage. By mid morning the next day, he 'flew' out of his cage (we purposely left the lid off when we saw the birds parents nearby), and we were thrilled to see he was adopted back into his family without so much as a hiccup!
Natalie performed in a UIL competition, and though she performed a piece she hardly knew at the beginning of the week, she played so fabulously that she received the prestigious 'Outstanding Performance' medal in addition to her 'First Place' medal. She has now begun Minuet 1 & 2 and thinks "It is so cool to be playing Bach!" (a girl after her daddy's own heart!). She has 3 more songs until she completes her Suzuki book, and she has a real knack at sounding out pieces she has an interest in. Way to go, Natalie!
The girls have all completed their studies for the year, and after their Science Fair next weekend, they will graduate to 6th, 3rd and 1st grades! School will resume July 6th, and at that time David will join in the daily grind at the pre-K level. Time goes by so fast!!!
Craig (& his polyurethane drugged family) is thrilled to report his 'stump project' is complete! We now have 3 sharp looking, shellacked (not the word but work with me here - I'm tired!) stump seats that we use to expand the seating capacity of our front porch. As cheesy as I personally thought his project was, it has come to my attention that some people pay top $ for those stumps...we just might have more stump projects in our future (sorry kiddos!). Way to find your way into a niche market honey!
Our family vet has changed Shiner's breed to Swiss Mountain Dog...basically a short haired version of a Bernese Mountain Dog. We are grateful for the shorter fur, but he's still going to be between 110 and 130 pounds, which is a LOT of fur, any way you look at it!
Finally, we are thrilled to report our neighborhood pool is open! The whole family is really loving having that activity back in our schedule, and we can hardly wait for it to be open all week again. We only have to wait until June, which I KNOW will be here before we know it!
Hope this update finds all of you healthy and happy....
Love Much,
The Meissler 7
