This morning our family was surprised to see it was a WHITE Friday.

In this picture, I would like to demonstrate the genius of my homeschooled just-turned-6 year old.
Since it is South Texas, and I was worried the sun would rise soon and melt all this snowy goodness away, I woke Claire up by taking a picture of her sleeping the snow day away.

AKA: SNOW DAY!
The homeschool definition of Snow Day is to have fun playing in snow, come in to warm up and complete a school subject, play some more in the snow, etc. Basically, a day like any other, but with more fun breaks:-). Our homeschool hours do NOT follow those of the

He thought of these 'redneck skis' all by himself! He was walking up and down the road (in his cowboy boots, of course), assessing the snow and how best to play in it. Then he had his 'lightbulb' moment and said "Mom, do we still have that pizza box?" I told him that yes, I did and asked if he needed it to slide on (I'm thinking 'redneck sled'). Then he replied, "Not to slide on, I want to stand on it and use my golf clubs to ski!" Brilliant. Innovative. A 'think outside the box' kind of kid....LOVE IT!
She was a bit perplexed at first, then cried because I was making her wear legwarmers (since she refuses to wear pants and pretends to dry heave when she wears them - also the same with turtlenecks), but we compromised when she saw the leggings were 'ducky' and pink. We also compromised by allowing her to go w/o socks so long as she wore closed toed shoes. It's all about picking your battles...
Then she cried because it was too cold, and she didn't "like" the snow. So of course we forced her into a small box and took her for a sled ride, to show her some of the 'fun' aspects of snow. She cried the first ride, cried a little less the second ride, and asked for another ride after the third!
By the time we needed to come in to defrost and eat, she was really starting to enjoy herself, and by this afternoon she was enjoying making snowballs:-).
As you can probably tell, the 1-2 inches that fell was enough to paralyze the city, and as of this post, some freeways are still closed, with most opening one or two lanes. This means mom did NOT have the surgery she so highly anticipated and may have to wait as little as 1 week or as long as 4 before it is done. BUMMER!
On the bright side, we'll be able to watch the Superbowl as a family, and Craig has a day to complete his schoolwork early, again for said Superbowl. Go Pack Go!
Here are some pics of our fun!

Way fun snow day! Ella, love your sweatshirt, great foreshadowing. :)
Love this post!! The snow day looks like so much fun. I'm glad Claire was able to enjoy herself. We weren't able to get anything done for school. The whole day was just distracted. I also like the new background for your blog!
